Great atmosphere. food was phenomenal. I ate damn near everything on my plate - which is rare for me. I got the patty melt . Everything coming out of the kitchen was on point! The fajitas smell and look really good! 😋 Our server was very sweet and friendly as could be . She did a great job . We were a kind of a picky group, but they got everything right and then some!
For, I don't know, 20 years or more, Kaysan's south was a staple of our family. I'd go there frequently growing up, get grouched at by the kitchen, and we continued going there long after I had a family of my own. Because it was just so wholesome and fun and delicious. And I think for all of us on the south side, its loss was a deep tragedy, one of the few highlights of this end of town. That said, I don't know why it took us so long to venture up north. To spoiler the review a bit: It's all the good parts of the south end and more, with none of the bad (They turn on the heater in winter).
So that crazy unique blend of Mexican is still on the menu, with the stringy delicious cheese that's burnt to the side of your plate on the burritos, and those unique taco shells, and those extra thick tortilla chips with the salsa dispensers that never work quite right, and that brown enchilada sauce that you don't see anywhere else. It's not authentic. It's not "tex-mex" Banditos. It's just totally unique and wonderful. And the Asian stuff is still there, the amazing bulgoghi and oriental chicken wings. And then also classic american burgers and modern boneless buffalo wings and two hearted IPA on draft. The menu reminds me of Rack & Hellen's from the east side, so eclectic! Very hard to do successfully, Gordon Ramsay would be shaking his head at the diverse selection, but they do pull it off and it's all fantastic casual food.
As a party that has a wheelchair, the open spaces were a welcome relief. This place is spacious, with plenty of televisions. Even without a wheelchair, it just feels better when you're not butted up against another table. And I'm not a huge sports guy, and the family room is tuned to other things, but I appreciated the multiple sports channels on display. It's nice.
And our server, Nicole without an "h" was wild. I know we're not the first emigrants to head north, especially after so many years, but she was welcoming, indulged our reminisces, and made us feel like we'd returned home. Thank you for a lovely Saturday.
Final review: 4/5 food, 5/5 atmosphere and presentation, 6/5 sevice and nostalgia, and because it's rad and the price is right and it's Kaysan's. We'll be back for sure . And we did come back on Tuesday with 4 more family members looking for that Kaysan's experience. They all left happy.
Edit to the owner: Don't kowtow to those filthy plebeians that say "I want my salsa hot" and then complain that it was actually hot. They deserve nothing but contempt. Get your house in order and kick these peasants out. Add ghost peppers. Thank you and god bless. And god bless the U.S.A.
Great place to come if you want to watch the game or just sit at the bar for a little bit. Never have to wait for a table the food is good for realistic price. Lots of Mexican. Chicken wings are marketplace like every place else but they are good
